back to business
CIOs and Information Technology managers know that managing both technology and technical people presents a distinctive challenge. Most IT managers have either a technical or a managerial background. Rarely, business or IT managers possess the necessary skills in both. More often, an IT manager is either challenged to finesse the unique needs of a technical staff or is struggling to understand the business side.
Technology leaders have to meet an increasingly wide set of expectations. The 2010 CIO is envisioned to be more of a business expert than a technical expert, someone who can leverage technology to provide a competitive advantage. At the same time, however, the CIO must have sufficient technical depth and knowledge to be a credible leader for the supply side of the business.
